This indicator is one of the most crucial parameters for evaluating the quality of synthetic esters, directly determining the product's thermal stability, hydrolysis resistance, and suitability for high-end applications.

 

1. Specific Standards for Different Grades

 

Based on application scenarios, acid values are typically divided into three grades:

 

* Industrial Grade (≤ 0.5 mg KOH/g):

The product after conventional vacuum distillation meets the basic requirements of ordinary industrial lubricants and metalworking fluids. However, residual free acid can catalyze oil oxidation at high temperatures, shortening service life.

 

* High-Performance Grade (≤ 0.1 mg KOH/g):

Suitable for high-end applications such as wind turbine gear oils and fire-resistant hydraulic oils. At this acid value, the antioxidant properties of the base oil are significantly improved, with minimal interference with additives.

 

• Premium/Precision Grade (≤ 0.01 - 0.05 mg KOH/g):

This is the current limit achievable through molecular distillation or post-refining treatment. When the acid value is below 0.05 mg KOH/g, residual catalyst and free acid are almost completely removed, and the hydrolytic stability of the ester bond reaches its optimal state, minimizing acid value rebound during storage and use.
