Select the oil according to the refrigerant

One of the most costly mistakes in HVACR? Running the wrong refrigeration oil for the refrigerant.

Quick selection reference:

HFCs (R134a, R410A, R32) → POE oil is the standard. Mineral oil simply won't miscible.

CO₂ systems (R744) → specially formulated high-pressure POE grades. 

Ammonia (R717) → POE or PAO, with careful grade selection. 

Legacy CFCs / HCFCs → mineral oil or alkylbenzene (phasing out worldwide).

Golden rule: refrigerant miscibility drives oil choice. Match the chemistry to the refrigerant, and you protect cooling efficiency, reliable oil return, and compressor longevity.
