Synthesis of ester-based lubricating oil

Ester synthetic oil is produced by dehydrating acids and alcohols through esterification reactions under the action of a catalyst. Their unique molecular structure determines that they have excellent lubricity, low volatility and thermal oxidation stability. At the same time, they also have the advantages of being biodegradable and having renewable raw materials.

At present, the synthesis methods of ester lubricants mainly include microwave synthesis, high-temperature esterification, transesterification, ionic liquid catalysis, phase transfer catalysis, protonic acid catalysis, solid heteropoly acid catalysis, metal oxide and salt catalysis, and biocatalytic methods.

Most synthetic methods require the use of catalysts. Currently available catalysts include sulfuric acid, strong organic acids, metal oxides and salts, solid acids, p-toluenesulfonic acid and heteropoly acids, ionic liquids and biological enzymes, etc.
